The discomfort of these young Belle Harbor ladies, even before hitting the cold waters of the Atlantic Ocean on New Year's Day, is evident in their faces. With a driving rain and temperatures in the 40's, the group who made the annual plunge at Beach 146 Street this year was smaller than in the past few years, but no less energetic.

Pictured first to the left, in the black one-piece, is Kathleen Marie Horan. Kate is a 14 year old freshman at the prestigious Mary Louis Academy in Jamaica Estates. She plays Jayvee Soccer and is a member of the Cheerleading Team.
